Goose: design your social life as a Social Universe.
We have found that being inside a Universe is a good metaphor for a social network active participant. In Goose you find the Universe where you can get your dynamic view of the people close to you part of a very special circle: the Core circle. Let’s look a this before immerging into the Goose Universe. Before we start we need you to acknowledge the fact we have posed a limit in the number of people that Goose handles naturally and this limit is 100 (if you add yourself it makes 101 - like the “101 Highway”). While this can be regarded as a limit – it is a self-imposed limit not a technological limit on nowadays devices – because we believe that this limit will give you the chance to do more with less and have an overall gain on your social life. We are available on the mobile world, no web. If you feel this too compelling, let us know.
The Core Circle
It is normal to have people subdivided into “circles” or “lists”. You normally select, peek and poke on your contacts to create specific lists or circles. Some of these can be guessed automatically by analyzing characteristics like where I studied (e.g. “Schoolmates”) and similar properties. Goose does this like others. Goose has also a special Circle denominated Core. Its inner characteristic is to be made by dynamically inserted People (unless people are defined “static” by the Goose App user). Goose has its own algorithm to decide which users should be part of the Core circle depending on some inner properties and the level of interaction people have with you (this are dynamic in the sense they vary over time and they are periodically recomputed). Being part of the Core circle will give your friends a ticket into your Universe representation and to some additional features, precluded to other circles. Since the Core circle is dynamic, people may enter or exit the Core circle depending on the relative distance (the so called δ radius) separating them from you. Besides algorithms and server side computing we respect your choice anyway. If you declare a person to be in Core, regardless of his “social distance” from you (as long as mutual social network activity is concerned), we will keep her/him in Core. Of course there are other circles in Goose and you can define yours. To ease your life, any of your acquaintances or friends can be part one circle plus the Core circle. You can leave Goose operating on your behalf or select any Core circle person by yourself or stay in between. You have the freedom to choose.
Goose has more then one option to represent you and your friends belonging to the Core circle. No doubt the most innovative is a Universe map where you and your friends are represented as stars and planets on a space volume. All people belonging to the Core circle are represented in the Universe map, besides defined as static (they cannot exit) or dynamic (default).
The Space Time Map
It is a 4-dimension surface map (φ(x,y,z,t)) where you can find people and objects (e.g. casual events, meetings) easily. One of the most innovative ideas, besides blending peoples and events by circles, is traversing the map by time to find time related objects (e.g. check-ins of future intentions to meet up as casual events spots). Of course you can look at now as well as in the past and more interestingly in the future by just sliding a time bar like you time arrow. Once you located you time window you can have a look of what happens in that geography and to which people of if you have some friends hosting a casual event: when and where. Just tap on a squared picture and find a lot of information, action and possibilities at your finger. I suggest you to look at the “Path” option where you can get the surface trace of the last 5 check-ins or “Locate” to get your space-time distance to a location holding a casual event or a friend and the way it try to give useful information to you. Needless to say … discover more yourself :)
Yeah. Timeline. I know it. What else? Give us few seconds and have a closer look. How many times you have gone back and forth form Social Networks Apps to take care about this and that post belonging to this and that friend of yours? I guess many, too many, like us. We believe on sharing with you a better way to manage this (we would like impressions and suggestions from you. We care, we really do). Since we have all your friends organized into circles, by swiping on circles you select the timelines of your friends. The most important thing to get is that each timeline is the blending of most important activities on all the Social Networks that person belong to. You can easily reply and perform the most important operations right on the spot (selecting the relevant entry) or go for them through the relative Social Network App (we link it J). So … recap time: you have friends timeline and you swipe among them, each timeline have all the (multiple) Social Networks posts of that friend organized by time, you can reply at your fingers. We are not substituting the Social Network App for one of the Social Network you use since you may like to use that App for all that operations that are not in our scope or have no related API available. We also encourage you to use the related Social Network App. The way Goose is built will augment your willingness to share posts and do things on Social Networks therefore increasing the overall social network traffic and activities.
Timelines are the trace of what other do the same way the diary is a trace of what you do and what people do with you. So the Diary is, in this sense, your timeline, plus some additional information. Some actions requires an interaction with the Goose server side components or either have just a local effect (local to the App) which are not traced on your Social Networks but will still have a trace on your Diary.
You always have wanted to know where do you go more often on the Social Network space or which friends are more active with you. What about a leader board, some nice graphs and all the Core circle related information organised by users and by Social Network ? Yes the Social Lifestyle tab tell you much about your time on Social Network and about your friends. You will know more about you and them in a funny and elegant way.
We just wanted to leave for last one of the most compelling feature we developed for you. We hope you would like and have fun as much as we had when developing it. Cross Sharing in Goose is more that simply sharing the same post on multiple Social Networks. It is an integral part of the App. Many Social Networks features have been analyzed and discussed in depth before being designed and developed. We believe we have done the initial step with all the strength we could put and we know that this is only the beginning of the journey but nevertheless we are happy. The most common features we analyzed were posts, replys, comments, likes, check-ins and events. We designed “casual events” and added other actions like “leave” (as opposed to check-in), “join”, “disengage”. We explored “posts” on multiple Social Networks and as we wanted you to have just a single screen we designed sub actions like “include” and “exclude” texts in form of simple mark-ups. We wanted you to be able to post on a single action on all of your Social Networks. We did it, we hope you like it J. We also wanted you to logically post on your friends walls and we found a way through it, we defined also a “spraywalls” sub-action to write on your friends’ wall. Beyond and underneath all this there is anyway a logical design that tries to streamline and uniform similar operations on diverse Social Networks. This has also some drawbacks since we know we cannot replicate all the Social Networks Apps features due to the fact that we need to trade off UI/UX with fine grain details working on multiple Social Networks at the same time. We encourage you to try Cross Sharing and have fun!!! Let us know your comments: we are in very initial phase and we can do much better with your help.
